An mot test every four to ten years as they propose would or might be okay if about 50 people lived in the UK, and OEM parts only could be used and that is provided the law said the parts must be serviceable for ten years. In the real world with modern day plastic fantastic cheap rubbish that is made, some vehicles at first test of three years would be better off and maybe a two yearly mot, and the more advanced luxury well built car could extend to four years. The government see statistics, they don't see individuality from one extreme to the other.  

They thinking is extend the intervals of the mot tests ,but the motorists must make sure they have the regular service done to pick up on any repairs needed ,ya that’s going to happen.
Malfunction lamps that illuminate tell the driver something is wrong and to get it looked at ,do people ,apart from some really and I mean really take any notice ,judging by the cars I test not a chance .
It might save the motorist a test fee or two and a bit of inconvenience as they say ,but with the way things are right now ,the motorist or some will use the money to buy electricity/gas/ food then spend money on the car .
All that will happen is accidents and higher repair bills .

Do we really want to start removing panels to inspect testable components,more investment on equipment to check DPFs !!!!!.

Only bit I see that’s more important is increase in test fees ,longer and stricter test and get rid of the annual assessment/cpd ,look for something better .

We'll not come out of the EU as far as transport is concerned because the mot must be valid in every EU country and not just the UK.

We have. But the government still want to "Align" most of the legislation with Europe.
