Hey all, back again with my eager to learn questions Had a friend mention he had some issues flag up at last mot.

I checked it out for him and it mentions the below: (see pic).

Is it just me or is this very vague as I would have thought it would of specifically mention, ball joint, drop link, wishbone. Do you pros have any idea what specific bush it is referring via the 5.4.2 numbers? Or that tell you specific what it is.

It normally means that the bush(s) that locate and secure the arm to the subframe are worn. The pins depending upon what vehicle we are talking about most likely will be the bolts that secure the arms to the subframe.

as for the bushes, they are meant to flex a certain amount, but if bonding has failed or has perished too much it will allow excessive movement.
obviously there is no excessive movement yet.
the most common bushes to fail are the rear bushes on a lower suspension arm.
as for the tyres, they are probably getting on a bit or constantly run underinflated.

As rocket says the suspension arms being replaced will cure that fault, and the bolts "if" necessary, but my experience with lots of suspension arms these days suggests that new bushes fitted into the arms will be slack and fall out or move around. Just change the arms and all will be okay.

To answer your question directly, that is the best the system does for these items.The numbers refer to the section of the manual and subsection dealing with the items in question.

Can you remember the Vauxhall Cavaliers ? The garage I started testing at the boss would have you changing the bushes one year and the bottom ball joint the year after easier and quicker replacing the full arm good for the customer but not the garage profit ? I guess

dwain might be thinking testers are failing the bonding deterioration rather than excessive wear in the actual bush?
