How did you gain your MOT test status ?

I did my C&G and then passed my National Craftsman Cert and became time served at 20 rather than 21 (which was normal in those days). Then completed a day course in Sheffield and started writing out pass and fail tickets with a ball point pen in 1978.
It all appeared to be quite relaxed in them days from what i remember, but i was working at a dealers so most vehicles were only 3, 4 or 5 years old (and no scrappy transits).

NTTA 96 or 98% 

One day course (maybe 10am - 3pm from memory, including the written test) with the Vehicle Inspectorate trainer at Walthamstow Cricket Club in 1986 followed by a demo test a few days later. My tester number was 12121. The tester that taught me the test procedure had 199 as his tester number.

No qualifications required.

I was in the Lake District last week. Bloke comes up to me and says "you used to test my cars in Walthamstow".


That happened once in Epcot @ Disney, Florida too.

was at a pool match in dunstable,down to the black,youve all heard it-seen these missed!a voice at the back pipes up"if youd seen that **** testing my transit last week youd know he dont fooking miss much!was laughing so hard i damn near DID miss it!was in joburg a few years back,ran into one of the tarts old workmates from bupa harpenden.was in amsterdam one time and ran into a schoolmate dealing smack under one of the bridges,on another trip there i ended up in a bar that had a photo of my old dad with summa the local"ladies"up on the wall from his merchant navy days with one of the(by now very)old girls still running the joint,cracking night!really made his day when i got back with some photos of my own with her and the family.another time i was boarding a plane home from benidorm and one of the guys from the pool team was getting off.got on a cruise boat after flying into las palmas.the guy in front of us on the gangplank was a drinking buddy from my local club.was bobbing about in the water off torquay with a lass i was with at the time.the little girl who kept chatting to us was a mates daughter whos dad was waving at us from the beach.plenty more as well but perhaps some best not mentioned,all i will say is wherever you are and whatever youre doing you are NEVER safe.about the only time i dont run into someone i know regardless of location tends to mean im gonna get strip searched in customs cos my passport photo makes me look like an albanian drug dealer dunno about 5 degrees of seperation,sometimes seems like theres barely one
