Becoming an AE in existing company

Had to drop by & offer a helping hand on this question.

Easiest way for you Simon......

1. Do the MOT Manager course.

2. Be added as a director of the Ltd company alongside the existing directors.

3. Submit a VT01 application for a change of AEDM.

4.Each director should complete the individual AE Principle section.

5. You will also need to complete the AEDM section, giving details of your MOT Manager qualification.

6. As a new director of an existing AE you will need to submit a DBS check.

7. You will need to submit a letter on behalf of the Ltd company, giving you, as a director, authority to act on behalf of the company in respect of the operation of the testing station.

Changes of directors are acceptable as long as there is no change to the registered company number so you will not be required to update any equipment. Dad can remain as a director but leave the running of the business to you.

The issue of proximity the road would only arise if the ownership changed. In this case there is no change of ownership, only a change of directors within existing ownership so you should have no problems - grandfather rights if you like.
