Morning guys,

Hope your all enjoying 20th May 2018

I have a question.

We are still waiting for our update. our fault really. But i need some advise.

It states allot of diesel emissions update and must be updated by 20th. or you can test. Does this mean i cant test diesels at all, no matter the age. OR does it also mean i cant test petrol??

Hi Paul.

There was a 'work around' for testing diesels contained in one of the Special Notices. I think it was numbered 6-2018. I can't remember exactly what it said but if you have a look through the notices it should be there.

I can't remember reading anything about petrol testing though. I'm sure someone else will have the answer for that question.

Just had another read of the special notice and in the summary section it refers to updates and new equipment:

"For both situations a work around is possible, until 30 September 2018. This workaround is only permissible where an upgrade or new meter have been ordered.
During that period you may be asked to provide evidence that an upgrade or new equipment has been ordered.
In any other circumstance of your equipment not being able to test to the new standards – you cannot carry on MOT testing."

Still couldn't see anything about petrol though.

Iv been testing petrol's all morning on grounds that i cant find anywhere that says no. and im sure when i read the terms for the work around it didnt say update and new machines but that is good, will look over the workaround

Guys there is no reason to stop you testing petrol vehicles
The work around is for diesel vehicles only
Have a good read of the special notice and ensure you understand the work round.
Machines and updates which are not ready yet which is out of control is not your fault but you can use the machine you have but test to the currant regulations regards metered smoke readings

The other update is the emissions update to the database for the EGA.

5. Spark ignition engine emission testing
The 19th edition of the in-service exhaust emission data will be published on 1 February 2018. You’ll be able to find the data on GOV.UK.

You’ll also find a link at the bottom of the login page for MOT testing service.

5.1 What you need to know
From 1 February 2018 until your exhaust gas analyser (EGA) database is updated, any vehicle listed that doesn’t pass the basic emissions test, must be tested using the limits shown in the 19th edition. These may vary from those in your current EGA database.

AEs are responsible for ensuring their EGA database is updated by 20 May 2018. It may be possible to complete this at the same time as your diesel smoke meter devices are updated.
