Vehicles without MOT's on the roads

I'm sure it can't just be us. Come the end of the month there are loads of calls from people that have realised that their MOT's have expired. Not by a few days but by several months! Looks like the automatic number plate readers ain't working properly or all of them would have had a tap on the shoulder by now. Most of our regulars get a reminder but it's no good if they've changed their car/van/whatever and forgot to let us know. Now that the DVLA/DVSA databases finally seem to be talking to each other better then they did in the past, and bearing in mind that DfT now offer the service free of charge, does anybody else agree with me that a reminder should be sent to the last known registered keeper for not just their road tax, but also for their MOT (and also if it's due a first test when it's three years old). It's simple. Instead of making MOT reminders optional just send on to the last keeper - they'll be to the right person 90% of the time. It would even help if the MOT expiry date was added to the paper road tax reminders that come through the post.

Anyone else think this is a sensible idea and that it needs to be taken further? I'll get out and talk direct to the people that might make a change (won't be easy and could take a while) if there were others that also think it would be worthwhile exercise.
