Just a quick question , a car has come through the garage with a tyre to the nearside front marked " Outside " but the tread pattern shows backwards as in what you'd expect to see in a directional / rotational tyre tread pattern .. following sidewall instruction , the tyre was fitted this way , so no reason for failure of tyre , yet following the car going for service after the mot , the fitter has scared the owner of the car by saying that the tyre will not act correctly on the road and that they should change the tyre .. now have customer on at me saying that I should have told them about it .. Can't win , I've followed the sidewall instructions and tyre was in next to new condition with no wear , what's your thoughts ? Paul

Your fitter needs educating or a slap or both.

I've looked twice at tyres like this thinking there was a fault only to discover they are ok.

seen a few like it,looks fine one side but on the other looks completely wrong.every one ive seen has been some mickey mouse brand.its fitted according to sidewall instructions-end of our interest.refer said punter to the fitter concerned,his problem not yours.

Pass and advise on the flat spot as long as the tyre does not meet other fail criteria.

There would be no need to fail unless the tread depth measured less than 1.6mm in the flat spot.

Many years ago I was doing a demo test for a VE when i spotted that a tyre looked like it was fitted the wrong way round . The tread was quite obviously pointing the wrong way , but the sidewall instruction was an arrow and the word DIRECTION pointing the opposite way to the tread .
VE agreed that the sidewall instruction overruled the tread direction .

When we got to the other side of the car it had the same tyre on but the tread looked to be pointing the correct way .

Now comes the part that stuck in my mind .
The arrow and the writing on the sidewalls had been removed .. possibly buffered off ..

VE said that as there were no instructions on the sidewall to give BoD and advise on both tyres .

Yup. I've never never ever ever seen an inflated tyre implode 😆
