From whst i can see Bristol cabs must have bald tyres, noisey wheel bearings
multiple religious items and good luck charms blocking drivers
view ,smell of sick ,gaffer tape holding body panels and bumpers on and no small change available.
Driver also has to be brother of authorised licence holder.

Our council sent us a check sheet of their own design with what they want to see. If yours haven't done, ask them for one. And, if they're anything like ours, don't forget to fill in every possible box that needs filling, even if it's with an 'N/A'!

In addition to what you've already said, we are asked to check for some form of sign writing on the vehicle, even if it's just a little phone number, and advise if it's not present. There's also a check for the light-up signs on the roof (optional with private hire, compulsory for Hackneys) and the fare meters for Hackneys.

I didn't think there was a lower standard than the MOT one until we started doing work for local taxi firms. Even then there were screams if they had to spend any money, even for a bulb, then they wanted it cheaper because they were "trade", then they wanted endless never never terms (as in they never paid when they were supposed to). Oh, and they wanted preferential treatment and never wanted to be kept waiting - they even wanted us to immediately go and collect if the delivery van was going to create some waiting for parts time.

They don't come here any more (and it took court action to get paid what they did owe us).

Whenever a new garage opens they get swamped by taxi drivers, all of them promise to bring all their mates taxis in if you do the job cheap and all of them ask for taxi rates on any job.
My taxi rate was 25% more than I would normally charge which I then knocked off when they haggled (if I let them)
When they asked if I charged VAT I said no and then stuck it on their invoice, when they said "YOU SAID YOU DON'T CHARGE VAT" I replied I don't I just collect it.

we had sheds turn up that you wouldn't dare drive, sat outside waiting for you to open, can you do me a taxi test, cuz it ran out yesterday! when you say sorry but you're not booked in, they take the hump and clear off. we've been lucky, cuz they haven't come back. we have one firm that books in a month in advance, and they're all nearly new motors, nothing older than 2 years! its great, cuz they're serviced every month!!
