has the vehicle been maintained to spec?yes.open it up with sh1te like that in there and he clearly lied.open and shut case,ask to see the service book first,if he gives you sh1te the main reason for oil going like that used to be cos he was using red,ask him if he minds you getting the oil/fuel tested for same.....

just had a corsa petrol in on oil no the dip stick at all timing chain noisy as hell told customer that a £10.00 for putting in 4 litres off oil she was not happy but i could not risk it for cat test the timing chain is know quite but you can here a noise there

Why should we be the fall guys for poorly maintained engines with that sludge in the bottom its defo got no service history. If you belong to any garage scheme get them to do a report or an independant engineer, the money that it costs for the report would be money well spent, keep the oil that you drained out of it as well as that can be analysed to tell you if it had any life left in it.

Miller oils do a test on the oil/sludge for about £50.00 if you look on their web site.

unfortunately the way the regs are worded and the inadequate pre checks that we ARE allowed to do leave all of us open to sh1te like this,the above example is pretty clear cut and I cant see em having to pay but that's not always the case,when the smoke test first came in vosa got collared for a few engines then shifted the blame for a poorly thought out test sequence onto us.i believe they worded it as "after minor procedural changes have been made we will not be accepting claims for blown engines"and the changes consisted of 6 revs to governed speed instead of 10.generally if its all gonna go pete tong it happens the first or second time you rev it.given that we don't even test for the main pollutants and half the engines out there now wont rev high enuff to get a reading it seems pretty pointless.stuff like this is almost always on an old snotter.ask the questions-has it been maintained to the required standard?hasthe belt been done if required?i ALWAYS ask these questions in front of witnesses and the only answer I accept is yes.dunno,just bought it,er,wots a cambelt?sorry not good enuff.if the guy concerned says go ahead and test it in front of said witnesses you got some sorta comeback.yeah,lost a few tests.NEVER had to buy an engine and the average engine costs an awful lotta 40quid mots.cya any way you can,just cos you cant make em sign a disclaimer don't mean you cant get proof that they gave you the go ahead.cctv is your friend here.

i allways check oil level and coolant on prececk ond if not any oil or no dipstick i wont test refuse to test item or any abnormal engine niose its done me for 21 yrs now i can say never had ablown engine yet come close couple times

And that looks like a dv6 sump. I'm surprised the turbo hadn't let go a long time ago . The sludge up quite well. And are quite famous for swarf in oil.
