pie in the sky kit car ideas

a couple of years ago while watching my beloved Passat being trailered away to that garage in the sky due to an encounter with an old girl with more years than braincells it struck me that it would have made a good basis for a kit car,those of you old enough to remember will know that mid engine kits tended to run Renault 20/30 transaxles and it struck me that the north south mounted vag items would make rather a good modern replacement.with this in mind ive been keeping an eye out for said mid mount kits ever since.you know the crack,you always come across em where the old boy has died halfway thru or its been there years and never started/finished.nothing.westfield/caterham etc yeah loads but no mid engine designs.while I suppose given time+tools I could fabricate a chassis of my own its hassle I don't really wanna get into especially as it would also involve making a body to go with it,projects like that quickly become more time and money than theyre worth.anyone out there with any ides?
