Buying over a running sole trader MOT station.

Hi Guys,

After some advice again, I currently own a class 4 MOT station which I am the AEDM, I bought the company 8 years ago and carried out a seamless transfer to move the station rights over to my limited company.

A gentleman 2 doors up from me has a class 7 testing station, He has just been diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer and has been working part time for the last year but has been mostly closed due to his illness. and has asked me to buy him out quickly as he has became seriously ill.

He doesn't have any staff anymore except him and his wife, He runs the business as a sole trader on a a rented building, His equipment isn't that modern and it is not a ATL station.

I can get the lease of the building transferred over easily enough and he wants to do me a receipt for all the equipment and fittings, All equipment is bought outright with no money owed.


According to him all i need to do is put myself onto his site as a AEDM and then remove him and continue to run the business under the established trading name they have, I am unsure if this is correct as its been so long since i dealt with stuff like this for my own place.

Could anyone shed any light on this and what i need to do to make it work.
