peugeot 407 swivel joints

I'm going to move this into the dangerous fails area - seems like something that everyone should be made aware of.

The component in the photo(not mine) shows what is called a swivel joint and is testable of course,but the correct rfr to use if ever one is found to have excessive play; is 2.5 RfR 3b: excessive play in swivel
joint.

Tested a 407 today with excessive movement between swivel hub & joint(lower bearing),but this rfr seems to apply only to vehicles fitted with a front axle???
Even when sourcing parts factors seem to refer to this joint as a ball joint which it clearly is not,so given that this is a common rfr ,what are testers giving as the rfr?
It seems the correct name for the part is a Fonction Rotulant Inferieure Pivot, FRIP seems french to me

The new Renault Clio sport 2 litre versions are now fitted with this front suspension set up the same as the peugeots.
These photos were taken last week off a 2010! Year of manufacture.
I know Peugeot have modified these swivel joints to last a lot longer,it might be worth taken a little bit time to examine these joints as it looks like Renault have not followed suit as this model only had 20k miles on and play was noticed already.
Renault still fitting crap discs to the rear showing a far amount of corrosion.

I had a Renault Clio sport 2 litre on a 08 plate yesterday with more or less the same set up as citreon.
This Clio had 112000 miles on it and still has the original joints in place.
Now I know citreon have improved these components to last longer compared to the earlier visions on there models,but it seems renuaults attempt is fairly robust and reliable.
But don't take my word for it,as its still a one to watch out for.
