A message to the DVSA.

Consider this.

Every day, on the way home from work, I listen to the traffic reports and in the winter, I am skilfully navigated around the black-spots by a colleague whilst I drive. Sometimes, they make horrific listening and I find myself thankful that I am not caught up in ‘any of those’.
The three main causes are :-

1. Accident

2. Road works

3. Breakdown.

…….not necessarily in that order.

Now I don’t know how many vehicles populate our roads daily, but I believe the trend is upwards. Given that, it is only a matter of time until we suffer gridlock on a daily basis and when any of the above three occur at a strategic road junction, perhaps in adverse conditions, the knock-on effect can only lead to self-perpetuating congestion. Tempers fray & risk-taking increases as engines are not the only things that overheat.

So, consider the role that the N.T. plays in his well meaning non-test related advisories. He is capable through his diligence, of indirectly affecting said congestion. (the rest remains firmly in the lap of the owner/driver). For example………

Low oil/coolant level
Fraying belt
Tyre appears under inflated / nail in tyre.
Engine cooling fan may not be working?

………you get the picture; stuff we see every day.

If you then, at the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency want us to refrain from advising because the ‘customers’ don’t want to hear the facts, then you may wish to bear this theory in mind.
Or is the state of our congested roads too remote from vehicle testing? I for one believe that N.T. can have a bearing on at least two of the above.
