Video recording of tests - moved from another topic

I was under the impression you were not allowed to record in the MOT bay?

Found this from 2012, not sure if relevant today.


Changes to Public Viewing "Area" requirement: 4.1e) a clearly identified weatherproof public waiting room or area from which the whole test can be directly observed without interruption, except for road testing (room for 2 seated people is considered sufficient)
• mirror or camera relayed images may be acceptable if all parts of the test can be observed as it would from an enclosed viewing area with window. Consideration should be given to the quality of image produced during variable light conditions. The use of recording equipment (CCTV) is unacceptable.

Can you explain how recording an MOT can be for 'security' purposes. It can be for enforcement purposes if the testers are not trusted. Uploading it to the internet so anyone with the password can view it in real time is beyond unacceptable. Can you get me the VTS number for that one please mercedes? I feel very strongly against this.

we do not allow public viewing of recorded tests they are for our records we have signs posted stating cctv in operation we have nothing to hide and out tester myself fitted the system
we would never upload any tests to the internet

just a thought if all tests had to be recorded it would stop the so called ghost tests overnight

Did you hear the one where DVSA wanted to incorporate cameras into the Comp 2 system for "security" reasons? If members of all the VTS councils around the country hadn't been so vocal against it you'd now be planning where to fit them.

I have a viewing area where the test is viewed via a camera in the workshop, that camera is only capable of hosting a live signal (no recording takes place)

On top of that and completely separate. I have security cameras that do record and are pointed in various areas in and outside of my unit. One of those cameras is pointed at my mot bay - I don't need to explain why we as a society need to have security cameras, because it's obvious - But it does happen that lads in workshops are getting not just verbally abused but physically too. Those cameras are not turned off.

I don't know many garage owners that do not have security cameras running, they are there for the protection of not only their staff but also their belonging which in the motor trade can be a lifetimes collection of hand tools.

Let alone the less discerning customer that accuses you of scratching their car etc.

I don't know anyone doing what mercedes has said he 'thinks' the local garage to him is doing, but it does sound weird and I suspect something is getting mixed up along the grapevine.

Remote viewing via a live stream with designated passwords for that specific customer who's car is being tested sounds completely plausible, but uploading recorded data then making that available to be viewed by anyone with a password does not.

Asking for a vts number from nothing but hearsay is out of order as well.

i agree with //excessive\\ security in this day and age is something we cannot take for granted

also since putting up cameras and signs it seams to have stopped the local ronckers from calling every day asking for scrap
