This is the last question we have "in the bank" so unless any of us can come up with any more we'll put this feature on hold for a while.

A vehicle with a hydraulically operated clutch using fluid from the brake fluid reservoir has a fluid leak from the clutch slave cylinder.

Pass or Fail?

I failed a Focus for it last week. carpet was soaked, all three pedals were slippery with fluid, brake fluid warning light was on but level was above minimum.

Its brake fluid leaking, I haven't got time to wash the pedals clean and do a proper test during an MoT, so thats good enough fo me

think(from memory)brake fluid leaking from the braking system was a fail.a clutch slave aint a part of the braking system.....suppose you could fail it on fluid below minimum if applicable.gonna have to look this up when i go in tomorrow

It is brake fluid that's leaking at the end of the day.

I would pass and advise, there isn't a failure for a leaking clutch cylinder and it isn't part of the braking system. On saying that if the leak was at the reservoir, then I would fail that

I've yet to come across a brake master cylinder that will become dry due to hydraulic leak on the clutch system.
If the clutch system decides to leak fluid and shares the same supply fluid from the brake master cylinder the only system its going to make any difference to is the clutch side.
It might have something to do with the postion of feed pipe for the clutch cylinder which is always higher then brake master cylinder,meaning the brake master cylinder will never be robbed due to clutch side leak and effecting the the most important system that stops the vehicle, the brakes!!
