Re-test with fail items correctly addressed but!!!

All testers make mistakes. Good testers hold their hands up and admit it. Not so good testers try to hide it. The tester did the right thing and held his hands up - not to do so and carry on issuing the pass makes him and the test station vulnerable to God knows what. I'd bet he'd never miss another spring ever again.

If the retest was a fast track most testing stations wouldn't log it on and fail it - I know they should but this is the real world. If it was already logged on it would have to fail the retest, losing the customer the partial retest in the process. Either way, for the sake of customer relations it has to dealt with sensibly. This has only happened to me once when I carried out a retest after the original tester "left". Funnily enough that was a spring too. As it originally failed on the brakes I'd logged it on already so the retest failed. Explaining to the customer that I'd do my best for him (and no I wasn't going to pass it even if it was our mistake) we did the job the next day. The customer paid for the spring and I paid for the labour and full MOT retest. He got his pass a day late but the vehicle was 100%.

He reminds me (ok - he winds me up about it  ) about it every time I see him - we been getting the whole family's tests, services and repairs for a few years now.

yes agree with you, but were just hypothetical situations where the same could happen, i have re tested and failed items repaired at garages where i have worked, and when traders have brought retests back, It's not liked but it's MY LICENCE and I want it kept clean, it's my livelihood.
