Another phone scam doing the rounds

It's great fun winding those cold callers up. I once led one on who was trying to sell me a conservatory. Had him going for about 15mins before asking him when they started fitting conservatorys to flats!

Last I looked I didn't have mug written on my forehead but I'm beginning to wonder........ ***

I had another muppet on the phone today (mobile this time). It was a PPI call with a difference. After doing the normal intro and asking about cards & loans, he asked for personal details including my name. I expressed my surprise he didn't already know as he had called me. I guess his foreign accent should have been a bit of a giveaway but he didn't suss I was winding him up when I told him my name was Nick Constable and I lived at Letsby Avenue. Date of birth was 29/2/1957 (wasn't a leap year). He was so pleased when he told me I'd be getting around £22,000.

He wanted to transfer me direct to the Halifax help line where they could give me the account number for the mortgage I paid off in 2004 (never been with the Halifax) if I was to give them some more details. He wouldn't give me the number so I could ring them direct and call him back with the details.

By the time I'd had enough and he was getting all keen on having most of my personal details I just told him that I'd been wasting him time and everything I'd told him was false. He muttered something - there was a you at the end of it - and slammed the phone down.

That'll be no PPI windfall for me then.
