Sway bar quick disconnect -

Further question, looking at solutions for retrofitting a rear sway bar disconnect...

Having read through the MOT guidance, welding repairs are not permitted due to the fact that the bar is spring steel and has been annealed. The heat from the weld would change the dynamics of the steel.

If I were to divide the bar in the centre in order to add in a disconnect system would the following be considered a possible pass or not?

The disconnect system would total 25cm of length in the middle third of the bar. Each half of the original sway bar would slot into a receiving tube either end of the disconnect system with an overlap of around 10cm. In lieu of welding the mated tubes would be fastened to each other using 2 bolts at 90 degrees to each other.

I'm conscious the spring length of the bar would be reduced, making it slightly stiffer along its length when locked, but then there is an upgradable VW version that can be retrofitted which is reportedly stiffer so this would likely match this.

Within the actual disconnect system there would be welds, but these would be completed prior to attaching to the cut sway bar, meaning there would be no deleterious effect from these being completed.

All comments and thoughts welcome and appreciated.

Can't see why what you suggest would be a problem, except don't have the two bolts too close to each other as that would create a weak point.
