The existing retest process has changed within the MOT testing service. To carry out a retest, you’ll now need to carry out a vehicle search via the ‘Start MOT test’ button and the service will recognise if your vehicle qualifies for a retest. You’ll then need to confirm if you want to retest your chosen vehicle.

This means the old 'retest' link, which used to be under the ‘Start MOT test’ button, has been removed.

All the existing retest rules still apply. To find out more visit the following page on the GOV.UK website:

Hopefully.

Are we able to retest the vehicle before entering the retest on the system? we all know how many come back and the brakes are the same etc etc. Is it ok to start retest on new system then add the details straight after as weve already looked at the vehicle? or is this time based?

With the exception of a test which has failed on brakes all I do is re test the vehicle ,then log on to comp 2 to register the retest,instead of signing out just return to the home page and enter results it's a bit like fast tracking

I might not be the best,but i was always in the top one

I can't believe you were questioned about fast tracking a spring fail motorhead...only measured items require a re-test and the correctness of what is classed a "measured" is and has been under review for a long time...

baz657, have read nitros44 post in this thread, copied the above as my DVSA VE informed me that "measured" = brake, gas & smoke cannot be fast tracked.

Vosa did issue a statement which was subsequently posted on the forum that they would accept emissions failures being fast tracked and no action would be taken against anyone doing so. This was done in response to several enquiries they had received after it had been taught on a lot of refresher courses that it was acceptable.

DVSA VE's can be wrong. It appears that your VE has now given you two pieces of mis-information if we include the calibration certificate incorrect answer you gave on another topic. You joined this forum on August 19th, just over a month ago. Some of us have been here for over three years and we have been through all this before and got the definitive answers from the people that count.

If you don't believe us that's fine but please stop trying to give other forum members and members of the public incorrect facts and information.

Any brake work - re test on RBT. its a timed event & not fast track and is a 15 point offence.
Emissions are not timed (at present)

An update on Retests etc:

Neil Barlow, the DVSA’s Service Manager, said: “There have been a few issues, but the service has now been stabilised and we are pleased to see that around 150,000 MOT certificates are being issued every working day which means the service is operating up to the levels seen in the old MOT comp system.
“I would like to thank garages for their patience during the transition phase.
“This is now complete, and although we still have workarounds in place for some temporary issues, I am confident that testers will already be seeing the benefits of a more modern, flexible service.
“We will continue to develop the system based on the feedback we get from garages.
“For example, we will shortly be updating the process for issuing certificates, to allow garages to email certificates and download copies for their own records. We will also be streamlining the process for carrying out retests.”
