We (VTS councils, or at least the meetings I went to) agreed that the VSI as it stands can be useless, and that the price DVSA has to pay for the information was extortionate. We asked for a VSI that actually did what it's supposed to say on the tin. We asked that testers actual feedback, experience and any notes were included on the new VSI (as was supposed to happen in Comp 1). This was to be part of the all new Comp 2 system (we were told).

There is a lot of political spin in the wording from DVSA...

If I had never come into contact with a Land Rover Disco 3, how would I be supposed to know how to put the handbrake into service mode to carry out the decel test or infact how would I know I even needed to do this? I have never seen this listed on any "Data Info" I have used other than VSI.

If DVSA don't supply this information and we are supposed to use other "Data suppliers" can anybody tell me which will list information such as this required for Mot purposes? In this particular case it wouldn't be so bad if it only said "Brake Info Required" and then I would know to reseach procedures for this.

Unfortunaetly there isn't a Motipedia to refer to showing these "out of the ordinary procedures or wear limits etc".

Have to be careful what I say here or David will be giving me another job collating all this

VSI was the biggest load of bollocks ever created. For a start it had the wrong name because it was never vehicle specific. It was a generalisation of data from Manufactures and useless in my opinion.

Never developed as originally planned and became stagnant...

You can't defend this one David, the vsi should have been something to benefit the tester in making the correct decisions and carrying out correct practices.

You supported it's removal, and your only defense for doing so is to say it was a load of bollocks?

Well...no, no it wasn't. You got this one very wrong.

Instead of supporting it's removal, you should have been supporting it's improvement - It's not rocket science.

I'm sad to see the vsi go aswell..

The weights are no use to me using atl. But it does give me a heads up on other things. But does wind me up also because I know it's 4 wheel drive but no 2 wheel select and how do I know it won't break the transmission. So to me it has its up and downs.

All I can see is it will now mean my test times will go up slightly checking tech data and then wasting my time.

VSI confused vehicle selection on MOT Comp.

We've all seen the "Test as selected in VSI or as original value" message....
We've all tried to follow VSI instructions then realised they were out of date....
We've all printed 3 pages of info on VT29's then realised there's no room to write anything....

How did we manage for 30 odd years before we had VSI wally?

DVSA done a bit of research prior to asking the Councils for input too. It wasn't a simple is it in or out? at all mate.

The cost was scandalous as well.

Comp 2 is very versatile. Once everyone is up & running without any issues the site will develop.

When it does we might see a far better means of accessing vehicle specific data, the possibilities are endless with Comp 2.

We all just need to concentrate on the Switchover and reporting as many user issues as possible to speed up the modifications needed for the main structure of Comp 2 at the moment I think...

Whilst The VSI isn't perfect, it is helpful. I feel that removing it, without replacing it, is a mistake and a step backwards.

I understand that @excessive. I've been using Comp 2 since early May 2015 and in all honestly I can advise yourself and others that you won't miss VSI at all mate.

Google provides far more accurate and detailed info for free. Comp 2 is browser based so everyone can have a tabbed Google Search page open with Comp 2 Home page.

We can also use Matters of Testing for MOT specific info or our very own Forum.

Now is when this Forum becomes an MOT Tool. Now every member can have a direct input in maintaining MOT Standards. Now we can all add useful information, procedures, common faults, pic's and much much more to help and assist the MOT Trade as a whole.
