Van driver’s daily walkaround check

I had a good van and driver today for mot test , not the man in the video links though . The pre-checks found that the offside loading door would not open and further investigations found that the interior door panel had been removed and that the lock was damaged and preventing the van door from being opened.

How long has that been like that?

I advised the AE that the door would not open, so he contacted the customer who arrived at our VTS and told me that he did not want that door to open because he said that he did not want his driver using that door because his tools (insecure behind the door) would fall out

I advised him that I was unable to test the vehicle unless that door would open, he replied by saying that he did not want to spend any money getting somebody to open the door and then having to pay them again to lock the door after the mot test!!

I said to him the alternative action here would be to fill the aperture gap permanently so that the door is no longer a door, so my AE advised him to put heavy duty tape round the aperture gap , I said that is not sufficient and in any event would not constitute a permanent job. The presenter said could the aperture gap be filled by welding and I replied that the welding would be involved and cost considerably more than fixing the lock, he replied by saying that he does not want to fix the lock , by this time I just wanted to walk away. 

I advised the presenter if the lock is such a big issue and you don't want your driver to open that door, why then don't you get the lock repaired and put a dead lock in the door and keep hold of the key yourself so that the door cannot be opened by anyone but you, he replied by saying that he does not want to have it repaired.

Least to say that he did not get his mot today
