Yep, Even if your base vehicle has 3 original vin locations, (plate under bonnet, tag behind window, stamped in inner wheel arch)if the modification body has a different vin that's the one to use. The weights in that plate also supercede the base vehicle weights.

Well i'm assuming peugeot made the chassis in France then Somebody in Southampton put on the camper conversion. So when I log it on using that it tells me "no Match". So I start a new record, complete the test and a couple of weeks later the presenter comes in complaining that I got the details wrong and somebody from the "investigation branch" had called at his house to check the vehicle. Apparently it's a pre-sept08 chassis so it gets smoke tested to 3.0ppm smoke instead of the 59 reg that corresponds to date of registration.He produces his V5, chassis number is the peugeot one, and last year's MOT, Chassis number is the Peugeot one. 10th figure of the Peugeot vin says it is a 2008 model year. Autosleepers confirm their conversion was completed in June 09.

It should be registered using the conversion VIN. It should be MOT'd using the conversion VIN. But it wasn't. I think the authorities just changed the details, there was no skulduggery going on but the customer was put through quite a bit of inconvenience

Would use new vin if it looked like a professional build otherwise delve deeper.

you answerd the question phaetonott you used the conversion no and had to make a new record that caused problems .the conversion no is there to contact the body builder to order parts to repair the body internal items ect the proper vin no is what is recorded at dvla i test a lot of these conversion,s and had no problems

New VIN & S/N 8-2013 too if not weight details

So, how does this work with a build that has left the manufacturer - I'm not clued up on motor homes.

It says that only the second vin should be used if fitted by the manufacturer and before being sold as new - How does that work with conversion companies like Swift?

Aren't Swift fitting their conversions onto vehicles that have already been sold and registered, in which case would these conversion only have the original vin fitted?

I want to understand how this works, because I get the odd Ducato motor home in and can't recall ever seeing a second vin plate.
