VTS Council meetings - next round

1 - If carrying out a retest that requires an emission test but no brake performance test, can it be fast tracked?

2 - Are ‘minor items’ (referred to when selecting test-type on VTS device) the same as ‘free re-test items’ as listed on the VT9a?

The interpretation is that the following items only, qualify for fast-track re-test and doubtless these will have been reviewed for 20th's (March) changes.

(Class IV VII only here).......

Battery, bonnet, boot lid, brake pedal anti-slip, direction indicators/hazard warning, doors, dropsides, electrical wiring, fuel filler cap, horn, lamps (excluding headlamp aim), headlamp cleaning or levelling devices, loading door, mirrors, rear reflectors, registration plates, seat belts (but not anchorages), seats, sharp edges or projections, steering wheel, tailboard, tailgate, towbars (excluding body around anchorage points), trailer electrical sockets, tyre pressure monitoring system warning lamp, vehicle identification number, windscreen and glass, windscreen wipers/washers, wheels and tyres.

So if it isn't one of the above, I don't fast-track it. Needs clarifying doesn't it?


3 - RfR 3.6.G.2

A brake fluid warning lamp illuminated or inoperative seems sensible enough. Why not use the same wording for ABS and SRS lamps? Vehicle presenters have already realised that removing the ABS and/or SRS bulbs will enable a pass (hopefully with an advisory of course)

4 - Several months ago VOSA advised on the subject of whether or not to use the "items not tested" option on the VTS device...


"The whole issue of ‘not tested’ is subject to a review to evaluate the implications of allowing common use. In the meantime common sense should prevail and although it technically goes against the Guide we should not consider any disciplinary action against the use of ‘not tested’."

Has that review been completed and if so what is the outcome?

5 - Special Notice 01/13 advised that a towbar not fitted does not require the 13 pin plug to be tested. Do you actually mean that the tow ball/pin is not fitted so no requirement to check the 13 pin?

6 - There seems to be confusion in regard to Electronic Stability Control. Is it possible for the relevant manufacturers acronyms to be listed in the VSI and is Traction Control included in the definition?

7 - Are there any plans to re-check the "calibration frequency" as proposed a couple of years back?
