we are just doing a 11plate Navarra,3200gvw,so what I hear you cry?well most of em haven't got an additional chassis plate by some mob called the 5th wheel co upping it to 3480 and giving it a train weight of 6.5 fooking tons.class 4 or 7?will give you the ministry response after as I have had about enuff of this sh1t so I rang em and said"make the call"keep in mind my exact words to em were"if this is under 2040kg my arse is a coconut"

I think that it says that in the IM or TG somewhere but somehow it doesn't always apply, very confusing I think.

I think this came up on the forum a couple of years back, and it may have been stealth said it was only an HGV when it had the trailer attached. My memory isn't all I would like it to be so please forgive me stealth if I'm putting words in your mouth that don't belong there.

I would say a definative class 7 due to weight, but dvsa will say its a class 4.
4wd Dual purpose vehicle,
Did a twin cab toyota hilux months back, was convinced it was a class 7 after doing about an hour of research, finally phoned dvsa area manager to be told test as class 4 and there would be no comeback as still a grey area.

2nd item. It becomes HGV if it has a 5th wheel fitted. If it has a 5th wheel it's been built or adapted as an articulated vehicle, therefore requires an HGV test.

Otherwise it's just a dual purpose vehicle with a GVW not exceeding 3500 kg, and unknown ULW, which is Class 4.

it aint got a 5th whl,thats the name of the firm on the new plate.as an addendum she was taking it for service to a mates place,his rollers have got weighing facilities,we aint so belled him and asked what it weighed out of interest as our ramp knew it was there even tho it was empty.2532kg.....and yup test as 4.even if kerb weight aint ulw it would need a major diet to get anywhere near 2040
