Anybody else think the manual needs to be clearer on brake fluid warning light, no real method of inspection or vsi, can pass if doubles with brake pad warning, can pass if doubles with handbrake warning why I don't know because two separate systems, dosent state that not every car illuminates unless there's leak and low level like Nissan almera as I found out when a brake pipe burst during test, had a audi a4 w reg in for mot repairs today ended up getting a hand lamp around dashboard cluster and couldn't see a space for brake fluid warning symbol, so came to the conclusion it must come up as message in the message reader on dash, so advised it as unsure of sequence of function of brakefuid warning light, anybody else came across this

Where the brake fluid warning lamp don't work then it should be failed .

If it's for multi component warning including brake fluid level it must extinguish. For example when you lower the handbrake lever.

It fails if it's on and it fails if it's off, that's not complicated but it's right.

Did the brake fluid warning light come on after the catastrophic failure of the brake pipe during test, did you pump , pump, pump the pedal trying to stop the wheels from turning.
its shocking the condition of brake lines on our roads, your lucky you weren't out on a road test in a land rover. something needs to change, you were probably right to advise as that would have probably been the answer given if you had phoned the service desk.

it's used as a get out of jail free in situations where nobody knows, or they can't see something.(like lights pipes and stuff)

A brake fluid warning light may be a combined lamp for other aspects, such as worn pads or parking brake applied, in the notes!! its not as simple as on or off, if there's a broken sensor for pads and leaves light on its a pass and advise as it a combined light then. And a few systems don't come on unless it's low fluid!!

The Nissan almera not sure of year was brought to my attention by a customer who said it only comes on if it's low, and true to his word I had one a few weeks later that only came on as a brake pipe burst during the test, it's not as simple as it sounds on/off.

Let the handbrake down and see if the light goes off , that's my method, if it stays on its a fail.

Ignition on :
The brake fluid/park brake lamp illuminates then goes out.
If the park brake is in the on position the lamp stays on,
Let the park brake off ,lamp will go out
If the brake fluid is too low it will stay on

Combined malfunction lamps :
The problem with these when on because it's the same lamp and colour a tester won't know what system has malfunctioned,so the manufactures design is when the lamp is on it will be accompanied with display message to tell you which system or both is at fault .
If the lamp is on and the message displays only "brake pads worn " then the brake fluid lamp is a pass.
If the lamp is on with a message" brake fluid low" then fail
If you have the lamp (like today for me ) on with 2 messages pads and fluid then same again fail for brake fluid low.

what if you get just a lamp on with no further info on what part of the system is at fault and you have no way of knowing if its a combined warning system or not, without some sort of VSI system (and they can get a hell of a lot more info from the manufacturers than we, as tester can ever get) we have no way of knowing, so do we just p&a, supposedly if there is any doubt that is the route were to take to cut down failures, whats needed badly is some way of the trade saying to them that something is wrong and for them to actually start taking notice of it but as things stand we are nothing, we have no serious voice and can do nothing, i`m out of testing, don`t miss it and with the way things are (and going) i`ll probably never bother with the bull sh1t from DVSA to get back into it, wonder how many others have said fckit recently
