The price of refresher training

when this kicks in i`ll be off, not doing it full time for someone else to pick up the tab and not doing enough part time to justify it, does make you wonder where all the money they get goes tho

55000 testers times £75 equals £4125000 plus any training fee's. ..just a money making racket. It's no surprise to me. This is what the IMI are all about. If it really is 50 % to pass, then really what's the point, other than to make money from us.

Only been testing for a few years and it seems like every year one more thing has been lumbered onto the garage. Perhaps DVSA has realised there's far to many VTS's and NT's about and think they can kill two birds with one stone? They way they are going about it means it's the small businesses that will loose out. Worst case scenario will be when it's only main dealers and national fast fit chains left that can do an MOT.

I think there should be more direct action, i feel this just more of the same, if all testing station act together and stop testing for a few days and lets see what happens

This is the first time I have participated in any topic, however I feel that if we all charged the correct test fee and stopped discounting there would be no need for this discussion

Newly qualified last yearon class 3 to 7, and qualified yesterday on 1 and 2. Presently employed full time outside the mot industry. Thats where I'll  be staying. Not giving up a secure job to enter into one with an uncertain future. What a waste of time and effort getting here.

Another stealth tax where's all the money going ? Shut all their facilities down decrease the staff and make us pay ! Great Britain

Being a non political animal it appears to me that the thrust of Governments over the years is to strip out their accountability, one only has to look at devolution of powers to local authorities and the Governments response when things have gone wrong. I suspect this is another part of Governmental (agency) control being relaxed, but maybe I am wrong. Remember if you don`t directly control then when the sh*t hits the fan then it don`t stick.

We know little about the qualifications of those making or conducting the assessments or indeed a full explanation how they will be conducted.

I feel that any campaign will be up against several the push-backs:-

1) that many occupations have to pay to keep registrations, nurses being one of them. A good response to this would be needed.

2) that tax relief can be gained against the costs of continued registration (the assessment)

3) that qualification is a good thing and gives the public confidence

Sadly, as others have said I do not think it will do any good at all. The concept raised in a later response regarding big conglomerates is interesting but unless there is evidence you are on a looser. But I do feel the burden on small enterprises is unfair.

I strongly feel the tack should be against the cost of this. If we fight against assessment my feeling would be that Joe public who is already very sceptical about MOT`s would feel, unjustly,  we had something to hide.

My fear is that if we do nothing then all we get is the positive spin from the DVSA in their Matters of Testing without any substance and then we will be hit with it at the eleventh hour..
I am disappointed that we still have not got the costs from the DVSA in black and white..... I wonder why  

No problem with the assessment or with it being annual. The problem for me is that we now hear for the first time about any fees that might be involved whereas it was implied that it would be as before with no extra cost to test stations and/or testers.
