Current mot not void after a fail

You cannot lose any time left on your MOT even if you put it in early and it fails. It is however an offence to drive a vehicle on public roads with known defects, even if the MOT is still valid.

Yes I understand what the replies mean but as far as the mot cert it doesn't cancel it out. I know that someone being stopped by traffic police with tyres on threads will be an offence .

A VT30 is a list of faults, hard to play dumb if you have a list of faults for the vehicle your driving too

As far as your brake lights are concerned, If you do get pulled by the police you may just get a verbal warning, but you could also get:
a fixed penalty notice – a £60 fine and three points on your licence
a Roadside Prohibition Notice – 10 days to fix the fault before a repeat inspection
your car taken off the road immediately

As well as an MOT failure, driving with a faulty or damaged light could mean a fixed penalty notice, or three points on the driving licence plus a bigger fine if it goes to court. Drivers who cause a fatal or serious accident due to faulty lights could face harsher penalties, including a possible prison sentence.

I have had one customer last year who was stopped by NPRCamera, I think he said it was a £60 fine. No checks on the vehicle and he did not have to produce new Mot.

It's all Ok as long as you pay up. (It's a bit like these new waste oil burning heater laws, exact same heater is Ok if you have paid your license fee but if you haven't it appears to be the most atmosphere polluting thing on earth if they catch you without your licence, pay up and it's ok again)

Interesting David, can't say I can remember the last one I had in that said they had been fined - I certainly get a good chunk of cars coming in well out of mot though.

We get a pine call or two a week asking for if we can do an MOT as soon as possible. They've been stopped by the police but get let go again as soon as they book it in. No penalty.
