Design Gross weight v design axle weight

That formula is used on class 6 (psv) testing with an allowance made for luggage from memory. 

No it's not actually, you just have to use it in context with the type of vehicle you are working with, changing the design from a passenger carrying vehicle to a goods vehicle requires a bit more work.

Tested a Renault Clio 3 door petrol 55 plate today. According to VOSA's data the brake test weight is 1020kg. The VIN plate GVW is 1420kg, the kerb weight from technical data for this vehicle is 880kg. According to VOSA's data the weight of passenger's are 63.5kg and VOSA exclude the driver so, 254kg is for the passengers, now;

880 + 254 = 1134kg,

luggage carried is 1420 - 1134 = 286kg, but we do require a driver so this weight becomes 222.5kg

So 1134 + 286 = 1420kg GVW, however for the mot test;

Kirb weight of 880kg + 140kg = 1020kg BTW

There will be many other ways I admit of doing this calculation, and the more complex the vehicles the involved I admit it will become, hence computer software programs are available to do the maths.

On any vehicle you examine on or after 01st August 1980 there is a VIN plate, and the VIN plate has the DGW stamped on it, so at the moment David I don't understand what you are referring to when you say it is not the DGW, which is given anyway.

To answer that first question David the correct answer is NO they are not.

I think you have misunderstood me David, when I said NO I was referring to nitros44 question I think who asked about using the axle weights to define the DGW, which you can't, and I did also say on the 5th March that fluid changes the axle weights if I remember correctly. 

With regards to your second point I answered that on the 5th March, where I advised how to calculate the DGW.

Oh and by the way, editing your own posts is to correct your own mistakes not another members mistakes
