Pleased I'm out of it now having had a recent conversation with a former colleague still in the job. Advice & education dont score VE "performance points" Easy targets get hit with the stick, makes the annual performance figures look good while there are a million hoops to jump through to do proper investigations on the ones doing "easy" tests.

OK, tugging my tin foil hat on I still feel that the recent connected equipment rules (and yes I know they're only for new equipment to quote Julia "for the time being") are the thin edge of a wedge that will end with all testing being handed over to a franchised operation. If/when that happens I can easily imagine all enforcement procedures stopping because, well, the franchisee will be expected to police the scheme themselves as part of their duties.
Maybe I'm over-reacting, I hope I'm over-reacting but I'm really starting to feel that way about it.

I think you are correct Peter, most big business and especially government departments always look ahead to get what they want for the "long term plan".

What do we want in 5 or 10 years time and how can we get that? If we implement x,y,z now there will be a rebellion, so lets just nibble away gently to get x then we'll just nibble away at y etc etc.

Experienced this with the closure of local primary schools and middle schools.
