Your thoughts are required ladies & gents

The reason behind the thinking is that the DfT want all MOT test stations to belong to an Office of Fair Trading  accredited trade association (and presumably VOSA approved). We've all seen what that type of thing would cost.

We think we could do it cheaper - a lot cheaper, especially if run as a non-profit association.

David has been doing a lot of work on this already, and has already drafted a constitution, but there is a long way to go and many hurdles to jump. Any input, ideas and practical advice would all be most welcome, as would any help you may be able to offer.

But will the powers that be just let us take their bread and butter without a fight?

Now you know that is not right Jock , let somebody complain against a tester and appeal and they can't get in the car fast enough to judge LOL

Sorry Baz, what I was trying to say there to Jock was that IF Government departments like DfT, OFT and VOSA are looking at ways to CONNECT themselves so that they are IN CONTROL of the system, then I meant that they would not make it easy for us the MOT Scheme to push them out the door and have our own system, which they would have no control over?

While I also appreciate that this forum is brand new and has a little over 100 members, somehow we all need to work together to get into the rest of the mot trade, as VOSA say they have over 19000 stations and estimated I don't know loads of NTs and AEs "Thousands", I think John Stephenson said at one Council meeting, when he said he did not know why we garages wanted more testers?

We have also got to think about all the other setups already out there like CVTS, premier mot and the others I can't think of their names at the moment.

I am not saying I don't agree with your ideas as I think it is a good thing, but this country has too many indivdual bodies and I am sure that the public must get confused who is who?

Forgot to say Dave, I totally agree there are too many bodies out there, and it probably will be confusing for the public, most of whom probably won't really care. But if there has to be one more, it may as well be us.

I understand that, and use it(infrequently) what I was saying is the emoticon I need is not there. And now due to your post I really need the facepalm again. Perhaps there is someone near you who can explain the 'facepalm' concept?
