Brakes? who needs them anyway.

The presenter of this car knew it had a “brake out” because it didn’t “feel right” (he drove it to the VTS). I, regardless of suspicions & pre-test checks etc. decided to go ahead and test it.



In failing it, amongst other things, there was no brake fluid in the reservoir, the pedal went to the floor, two of the (foot) brake readings recorded zero on the RBT, brake pad linings were non existent and the brake disc speaks for itself.



The worst things were that he insisted on driving it home to fix it himself and asked before leaving (you’re not going to believe this bit) “how do I go about bleeding the brakes”?


I insisted he sign a copy of the VT30 on which I made a separate advisory, in capital letters, line 1, that the car should not be driven on the roads (I forget the exact words but they were most certainly as bold as they were compelling). He said………. “suppose that means I’ll get pinched if I get stopped does it?”
