Bling wheels, and we can't afford decent tyres

In Nitros's excellent pics the structure of the tyre is failing, Not the cords, but the structure, and not a cut deep enough to reach the cords, but a tear. If it was cut that would be very different. For rubber to separate that means the structure is failing.

Although its a pain in the backside to check the full tear like this one which went all the way round the sidewall.The best way to assess the partial failure of the structure may require a bit of pushing of the sidewall to differentiate between manufacturing undulations and structural failures,what i did do was to find the more severe sections of the tear and drop the vehicle down from the jacked up position to open the tear up buy the flexing of the sidewall.
In respect of a tear no cord needs to be exposed and the tear need not be over a particular length to justify a failure, so long as it is caused by separation or partial failure of the structure of the tyre.

But before that, the defect on the tyre will have to be considered in respect to weather its structural failure or just a cut

Its not a cut. There are specific rules for a cut. This is a separation of the rubber, and as you can see in Nitros's handiwork the split is sometimes more serious than it appears at the surface. In places he's shown the split to go inwards and then go parellel with the cords below the surface.

Nitros also hit the same method of opening the split as I did, but it's a pain keep jacking and lowering so I use the heel bar to lift the tyre and flex the wall.

Anyone seeing much of this going on, and if so what are you doing?



This tyre was out of shape, but not by much. However, I am having more and more of these sh1t tyres with wire sticking out of the tread edge and they are not out of shape.

Yes I've seen this before,that particular tyre in your picture must be about 10 years old if not more not sold those for a long time.
